Designing Your Future and Momentary Bliss
It's possible to design where you're headed rather than leaving it up to chance. The first step is to be clear about what you want and how you want to feel when you get there. This way, you'll have more of your own blissful moments in addition to those of your children.
This past weekend my husband and I were celebrating that we had two happy, well-adjusted children at the same time.
Nothing is wrong with them, but after going through middle school, high school, or honestly any school, there've been some tough moments. You have likely experienced this with your children as well.
As the mom, I often sensed that I felt their difficult times more than they did. As they went through them, so did I.
Sometimes the issue was over, and I'd have no idea. I'd spend the day worrying, and then you can't just straight out ask them. You have to work around the subject as not to pry because teenage girls can be tricky. So by the time they let you know how things went today, you'd find out the whole situation resolved last night, and they just didn't tell you.
As much as I thought I was in the loop, I wasn't usually the top rung. Of course, that was perfectly fine, and I was always happy to have played a part. The point is kids go through lots of stages, and they're not all so easy.
So this past weekend, we were discussing this small miracle that both of my daughters are at a good place at the same time. We are celebrating for them and the moment, because we understand it is just a moment in time.
It's more like a moment in time when the clouds are perfectly aligned, but also knowing any growth will push them out of the zone of comfort into a period of uncertainty on the way to the next phase.
While this bliss is what you strive for your children, you also want them to push through and move forward where the whole process starts again. At the same time, it's equally important to make sure you grow and strive for your next phase, too.
As much as the goal may be those moments, be mindful that it doesn't last for them or you. Life is always evolving, so moments are temporary, and once you get there, it's not long before your desires push you to what's next, too.
It's also possible to design where you're headed rather than leaving it up to chance. The first step is to be clear about what you want and how you want to feel when you get there. This way, you'll have more of your own blissful moments in addition to those of your children.
